A lovely story about loneliness and community. Such a lovely read. I loved Missy as a character, she was anxious and socially awkward and the author presented her overthinking and worrying about everything, from how she was viewed by others to her loneliness. The development of Missy’s character was lovely, as she started out as a lonely, elderly lady who was bitter about some aspects of her past, and grew to make friends and become more social. I thought she really grew as a character due to her integration into community.
The book itself flicks back in time throughout, revealing bits of Missy’s history which are integral to understanding why she is the way she is. I really enjoyed these parts of the book, as it was also a way that the author revealed the secrets of Missy’s life and the reader gets to learn more about her. Overall, a lovely warm read.
