After reading the first look I was sure this was a book I would enjoy and I was not disappointed. Missy Carmichael is seventy -nine years old and is very lonely. Her son lives in Australia and she sees him and her grandson only at Christmas. Her daughter lives in England but they have argued and become estranged. It is only towards the end of the book that we find out what had happened. Missy feels that life has nothing more to offer her but a chance meeting in the park with Sylvie and Angela changes everything although at first she refuses their offers of friendship. As the story moves on we learn more and more about Missy's life and how she met her husband Leo who she loved very much. This book presents a positive picture of becoming older. Missy not only finds new purpose in her life thanks to her many new friends but is also able to help them in many ways.
