The Missy of the title, Saving Missy, is an elderly widow who sadly has little contact with her two adult children and, like so many elderly people, is extremely lonely. Beth Morrey writes about how she is befriended by Sylvie, after taking a lightheaded turn at the fish stunning in the local park. Sylive then introduces Missy to Angela and her son, Otis, who Missy has seen before on one of her routine walks in the park to get some exercise. Otis reminds Missy of her grandson who she so rarely sees as her son and his family live in Australia. Initially Missy is reluctant to accept their invitations to join her for coffee but, luckily, these good-hearted women persist and slowly Missy's life improves. Sylvie and Angela involve Missy in their lives and introduce her to other local people in the community whose company she grows to enjoy immensely. In time Missy's relationship with her daughter also improves and Missy's life is full once again. There are setbacks along the way as there is in every life but this is an uplifting book and will be greatly enjoyed by many, many readers. Saving Missy is a brilliant debut novel from Beth Morrey.
