Millicent Carmichael (Missy) is an older lady in her late 70's who lives on her own as her husband Leo has passed away, her son Alistair and grandson Arthur have moved to Australia and she's not close to her daughter Melanie after a falling out on her 78th birthday.

I thought this book would be about a second chance at life, which it is but there are so many more deeper levels to this book. A few of the chapters Missy talks about her younger life and things she has gone through, it was quite a heart breaking and emotional read.

This book was a slow burn but it showed so much character development, Missy sees herself as this lonely old prickly woman who has no friends until one day she meets two women (Sylvie and Angela) in the park and things change for her. At first she just wanted to be noticed but in the end she builds her friendship and opened her heart and home to them.
