Millicent ‘Missy’ Carmichael is a lonely 79 year old. Her beloved son has settled in Australia with his wife and child and she is currently estranged from her daughter after a bitter argument. There’s no else left in her life and she wanders round her large, ramshackle house waiting for time to go by. Until an incident at the local park brings two women into her life, who force Missy to take a long, hard look at herself and realise that life is for living.

What a glorious book. It’s such a lovely, uplifting story. Missy is quite the character; aloof and not that easy to like, but as her layers peel off and she starts to relax and be less up herself her personality changes for the better. I loved getting to know her and finding out about her past and loved her friendship with Sylvie and Angela.

Saving Missy is essentially an incredibly heartwarming story about friendship and female solidarity. What more could you want?
