When I first picked up this book I was expecting to read the story of a lonely woman who was looking for a second chance but I soon discovered that this book was so much more,it left me with a warm feeling and a strong admiration and connection to the main character 79-year-old Missy.

Missy lives on her own in a big old house, Her family have grown up and moved away and her husband has died. Her chance meeting with two ladies in the park opens up a whole new world of friendship, laughter, community and forgiveness.

I loved the flashbacks to Missy’s younger life. Like so many wives and mothers she had always put others first and ultimately had lost herself along the way.The importance of finding yourself and connecting with others was so well portrayed, a great reminder especially in these lockdown times. The unexpected joys she received by owning a pet was also explored beautifully. Sometimes the easiest option is to continue with the familiar routine of your life but to have the courage to change things, no matter what age you are can give unexpected joy, and I admire Missy for taking a second chance.

This book was just what I needed right now as it had me laughing and crying in equal measures. Missy is a character who I will find hard to forget. The hidden layers in this book were beautifully woven into the story I would definitely recommend it as a first class read.
