This book is gripping from the very first page - the characters, the plot, the writing itself is just great. The narrative for both Ben and the serial are introspective without exaggerating or being melodramatic. I like that the serial is never named - despite his childhood trauma this is not truly his story. The two plot lines of Bens past and the murders running alongside each other also add to the tension and help keep you gripped. This book is well written, I especially enjoyed the descriptive parts which conjured up such strong images to me. I often find complex descriptions difficult to follow but its like I wasn’t reading it all. All in all, this is a fantastic crime novel that I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of reading it.
