Michael Emmett writes as if he is in the room and talking to you directly. The writing is unpretentious and flows naturally. He tells the story of his forefathers and of his young 5 year old self - remarkably well. Many of the South London haunts he describes are very familiar to me - it gives a very different look of 1960's south London that you might not otherwise have known from the viewpoint of a young man who greatly influenced by his father.
