The narrator is, by the very nature of the book, an untrustworthy man, and yet the narration itself - aided by his side writer, I imagine - is intriguing and makes for interesting reading.
That said, I am somewhat ambivalent towards someone saying they're writing to make up for what they've done while also saying it's as a result of being possessed by an evil spirit. That's somewhat contradictory.
