Initially the tale sounds like so many, glamorising a time when organised criminals were exotic and subject of much interest. The sex and money aspect must then be left behind as a prison spell beckons. The twist in the tale is the author discovering more to life in a religious course while away. This might hopefully provide hope and redemption.
