When I was started this I just totally expected the gangster kind of culture and yes ok some of it was like that but there was a lot more going on, the author who due to his father and upbringing was involved in crime from a young age.
But his experiences back then shaped him, from sexual abuse, drugs, to witnessing violence and underhand dealings it was no surprise that he followed in his father's footsteps.
Heavily into this kind of scene for a large part of his life he eventually gets caught out and ends up in prison.
Whilst there he undergoes a religious conversion and it shapes his life from then on, trying to change his life for the better I guess in this instance I suppose you could say religion "saved" him.
This was a fascinating read from beginning to end, I thoroughly enjoyed it, a lot more than I thought I would.
The reader gets to see the more human side of Michael instead of just the convict and criminal.
It is a no holds barred account though and he DOES tell the bad side of all he did and is very candid in sharing his life story
It just goes to show that our past doesn't define who we become in the future.
