I can't believe I put this book off for so long only because I had such a long reading list. However, I couldn't wait to get into this and start this book. I have strong enthusiasm for the subject matter of rehabilitation and criminal life as I'm currently undertaking a degree in a similar field.
The narrative "Sins of Fathers" is based on actual events as it is an autobiography of Michelle Emmet. Emmet's childhood dream was to join in with the family business and carry on his fathers legacy. At the age of 18, he did precisely that as he descended into the glamorised, perilous world of organised crime.
This book chronicles his early years and the early glimpses of criminality he had thanks to his father, through his incarceration, and ultimately through his rehabilitation.
Though the whole book was filled with emotions, especially the trauma he face, I particularly found Emmet's arrest hard to read, as it puts in perceptive his point of view almost making it seem as a scene in a movie. Especially later on when we find out he was sent to prison to share the same cell as his father. I feel really sorry for Emmet throughout the whole book however it was really interesting to see how he coped and during his time in prison how he found a love for religious faith. And how over time improvements were highlighted and his life now is much simpler with less extravagance and money yet he is happy now.
With this book, you realise the different lives people live and their experiences and it shows how u don't have to be perfect, you just have to do your best.
overall I'm glad I picked this book up, and would highly recommend especially if you have an interest in criminal pasts and redemption.
