The memoirs of a criminals road to redemption, is fast paced and well balanced. It vividly explores family life and the circumstances in life that are beyond our control, that often forge our pathways in life. Michael emmett is a descendant of a family of violence and the draw of criminal life in order to provide a better existence for family is understandable and almost acceptable. The family tree and certain tragic circumstances make bold tales, truth often been stranger than fiction. The situations are told with an air of aloofness, factuality overriding any unnecessary dramatics, which makes the stories more real and impressionable to the reader. The grandfathers horrendous suicide, his fathers connection to the great train robbers, his sexual abuse from a young age that creates his own subconscious way of hiding his feelings. Family life is well described and his idolising of his parents is endearing. Overall, a colourful and well versed journey of a remarkable life.
