I have very mixed views regarding this book.

The style is very frantic and jumps all over the place which makes it difficult to always work out what happened in what order.

The events of Michael’s life and people that he meets are so varied and extreme that sometimes I wondered how much was reality and how much was fantasy. There seemed a bit too much name dropping and too many coincidences for it all to be true.

On the plus side, it was a thought provoking read and gave an interesting look into a life unlike anything that most people experience. I’m not sure what would have provoked the author to write so honestly about his life – a cathartic exercise or because he needs the money? The religious side and the “new improved Michael” sections I didn’t feel were too preachy, although in the end I was just left feeling that he was a rather self-deluded and sad character.
