I think it’s safe to say that I haven’t read anything quite like Spellslinger before. It has a different magic system than any I’ve come across previously, an intriguing focus on cards (which I’m looking forward to learning more about) and a unique blend of fantasy and western which I can honestly say I’ve never seen before. The entire novel has a rather interesting feel to it but I didn’t get quite as sucked into it as I have other books in the past. I have been rather busy too though so perhaps that’s part of the reason; I’m hoping to throw myself fully into book two and see how I get on with that one.

I thoroughly enjoyed the world that Spellslinger was set within and I hope to learn more about the different types of people in future books. I’ve got to say that I’m particularly interested in reading the second novel to learn more about Ferius and the Argosi. I found several of the characters truly fascinating and can’t wait to see more of them but some of the characters, on the other hand, irritated me. There was one individual who I ended up really disliking and a few people whose actions, occasionally, irritated me for various reasons. For the most part I thoroughly enjoyed the story however and liked getting to know Kellen and the other cast of characters.

There wasn’t really a slow point within the whole book. It started off with an action packed introduction and from that point on something was always happening. There were lots of twists, turns and cliffhanger endings to chapters that left me wanting to read on. I look forward to getting on with book two.
