Character development is excellent, we really get to know Kellen and his trickster friend Ferius, the cocky, sarcastic Squirrel Cat side kick and the mages who make your blood boil.
I adore the descriptive writing around spellcasting and the back story to the JanTep.
This book is a perfect introduction to a new world, an excellent mix of action, suspense and fun.
