Palpable descriptions that really draw you into the the world. I’m fascinated by the idea of a character in a world of magic that is not by any means the best in his field but in fact manipulates the world around him and the rules of magic itself to active his goals. The writing style really encapsulates what it’s like the see the world as a teenager with the pressure of life and your future on your shoulders. Some aspects of the writing might come across as a bit cringe particularly the parts in which The main character speaks about his relationships, but this fits with the age of the narrator and allows for you to really feel the awkward nature of his feelings. I am intrigued to find out where this book will go, it has so much potential to tell a story that doesn’t focus on a magical prodigy but instead explores what it is like to work hard and think quickly to succeed in a world that is more powerful than you and intends for you to take a certain path in life.
