In this book we follow Kellen, a soon to be 16 year old mage. The story was very well-written and when I was reading it, I felt completely immersed in the characters and the world around me.
The characters are well-developed and all make you want to read more about them - even the unlikeable ones!
The story follows Kellen as he struggles with becoming a mage and realising that he is not quite the same as his family. Along the journey, you meet interesting characters and although it is not set in our reality and world, the traits and character development are believable and the story is well written enough to keep you hooked and reading more.
The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because there were minor character flaws that grated on me personally, it was probably too close to home!
A brilliant read overall and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
