I was initially drawn to the book through the interesting cover. I was expecting some form of dark fantasy or perhaps a dark magic vibe. I have never read any of the authors previous works and following this I’m not convinced that I ever will.

The story follows a boy who is an outcast as he is struggling to get a grasp on magic that he does not believe that he has. In a fantasy world in which everyone uses their magic cards, I found the concept to be a few main traits and themes put together into one. This did work and it had a lot of potential to do very well.

I found the plot of the story to be formulated, cliche and very predictable. In saying that the writing style is unique and the story overall is very well written.

Overall I am willing to pick up the next in the series, but I’m not dedicated to go out of my way to go and get it. The story left of at a cliff hanger and has a lot of potential so Id be willing to give the series another chance,
