I wasn't a massive fan of this book to be honest. I think the characters and the magical aspect of it was quite cool but it just wasn't presented very well. There were a lot of points in the story that confused me as to where it was going and it took me a while to get invested in the story in the first place.
It might get better as the series goes along but I'm not planning on reading the other books. None of the plot twists really surprised me because it just wasn't a very thrilling book.
The most interesting characters were Ferius and the squirrel cat because they had very mysterious and arrogant personalities that often made them fight throughout the book. Panahsi and Nephenia's personalities really annoyed me for some reason and I didn't feel any empathy towards them.
I wouldn't recommend this to fans of fantasy, maybe it's better for a younger audience?
