After an interesting but slow first third where I was having trouble keeping the characters apart this picked up the pace with a dark twist. Kellen has issues, he hasn't made his magic work and it's almost too late, there's a conspiracy brewing and a stranger in town. How will it all play out?
Given a rich history and an Arabian style setting with Egyptian style names this is obviously a desert book so when the story referenced white skin tone you know something is going to be weird about the way the people came to the oasis.
My only issue with this is that due to the confusing names the enemy became done character in my head even though I think there were three. Otherwise. A great fantasy read with an interesting system of magic and some good back story that will hopefully be built on in future volumes.
I received this book from ReadersFirst in exchange for an honest review.
