I started reading this book knowing very little about it. I hadn't seen any reviews or promotional material for it, and was drawn to it through being recommended it by a fellow reader. After I started to read, however, I knew that I was reading something very special. de Castell manages to create an immersive world of magic and trickery, of talking cats and drinking travellers, that I loved being in. I felt like I could truly connect with the characters Kellen, Farius and Tennat in equal measure, which is saying something because, before reading the book, I never thought that I would be writing that I connected with a cat.
It's a book that makes you both smile and gasp in equal measure, and it's a book which I am very happy to say is now the first in an equally brilliant series.
