Slow but steady

I made the mistake of not having read the author's first book, Stags, before reading this follow up. Whilst it definitely would have helped to have read the first, I read a few reviews and got myself up to date so that I could dive into this one. I found the first half of the book fairly slow and it took me a long time to connect with the story. This could have been a personal thing, seeing as I hadn't read the first book and hadn't had a chance to connect with the characters. But in the last half, I felt like it really kicked up a gear and piqued my interest. I thought the play was a great concept and there were a lot of cultural references peppered throughout that I found enjoyable. It led to a lot of googling of real life things, which I always enjoy!
There is a lot of humour that comes through in this book, as well as drama and thrills - overall a great read!
