Maybe it is my fault, maybe I missed a trick here, maybe I should have known better, maybe I should have read the synopsis with more attention, maybe I should have thought this through a bit more.

The fact is, I was a quarter of the book in when I found myself asking: what is going on here? I have not really understood a thing of what has been going on so far. Is it me not paying too much attention or is there something missing?

So, I went back to the book description and I discovered the reason why nothing was clear. This book is part of a series and I missed the previous book. The setting should have been familiar to the loyal reader, as should have been the characters. But neither was for me. I read other books belonging to a series without starting from the first (eg STILL ME and GODS OF GUILT), and I never had issues with them. But this book is impossible if you haven't read the first book first. So beware casual reader, you need to invest in this before being able to enjoy it (or even understand anything about it!)
