DOGS is the sequel to STAGS and before you do anything else, I recommend you read that first. This book picks up almost immediately after the second one, and continues the story of Greer, Nel and Shafeen and the mysterious Order of the Stag. The story revolves around a (real) lost Ben Jonson play, and introduces some new characters from the villainous (or are they?) de Warlencourt family. To say much more would be a spoiler, but this is a wild ride of a book, full of Gothic mystery and suspense. I’ve knocked one star off as the author has a tendency to end chapters on a cliffhanger, which is all a bit Dan Brown (not a compliment) and some of the plot involves a lot of suspension of disbelief. But apart from that it’s great. It’s nicely set up for a sequel too, so I’m looking forward to finding out where things end up. I’m several decades too old to be the target audience for this book but I don’t think that matters at all – well worth a read, especially if you enjoyed ‘The Hunger Games’. (But seriously, read STAGS first.)
