My favorite thing about this first glimpse is ruby, a character you would probably despise in real life but can't get enough of her in a book, her sense of not caring about her neighbor's opinion of her make you wonder if all of it was just an act or is she hurt that they all actually believe that she would do such a horrible thing. This book made me think of the first episodes of the show pretty little liars where we watch the whole night of the 'crime' unravel in front of us. I hope this is the direction the author is going towards where we can see flashes and glimpses of what actually happened during the night of the murder. The author's description really captured the creepiness and fakeness of the neighborhood.
My theory is that Ruby covered up and took the blame for someone else.
