This is the most intriguing opening yet from Megan Miranda, with a bold female character who is under suspicion of murder, making an acquaintance feel uncomfortable in her own home. Strangely, in the opening, I found the slightly unhinged character of Ruby to be rather likeable and frightening all at once!

I've read other books by Megan Miranda (favourites include All the Missing Girls and The Girl from Widow Hills) and this sneak peek keeps up the author's winning formula - young, fearless characters embroiled in murderous scenarios in an isolated setting.

I am also drawn to the cover art which gives a sense of somewhere spooky and isolated, with an aerial shot of a remote cul-de-sac engulfed in trees, with a blueish tinge.

I'm keen to read the whole book and see what develops!
