Interesting idea but lacked pace

I was looking forward to reading this book after being impressed by the opening few chapters but for me it lost momentum rather quickly, which was disappointing.
Much was made of the difficult relationships between both members of the same household and also between neighbouring households but this seemed to detract from, rather than add to, the suspense. This meant, ultimately that I spent too much time working out who was who and how they interacted with each other rather than getting into the murder plot.
I stuck with the book to the end and, yes, it did reach a satisfying conclusion with everything explained eventually.
Personally I prefer suspense novels to have a bit more pace but it will appeal to those readers who enjoy delving into the deeper side of characterisation and it will most likely be made into a film to suit an American audience.
