This was a slow paced book about a quiet neighbourhood which was shaken up a few years back by the murders of a couple of the residents for which Ruby, a young resident who was renting a room from Harper, was found guilty. Now new evidence has come to light which has thrown Ruby’s verdict into doubt leading to her release and her decision to return to Harper’s home.

I found Harper to be a very weak character, why does Ruby dominate her so much that she feels she has to let her stay? Ruby is a much more interesting character and I would have loved to hear some of her side rather than the story being told through Harper’s eyes. The neighbours have some very complex dynamics going on but I felt I only knew them on the surface, that said most had secrets they were keen to hide. If I’m honest I couldn’t see how Ruby had been found guilty in the first place, the evidence seemed very circumstantial however the complicity of the neighbour cannot be doubted. The outcome wasn’t shocking but it was concluded well. Overall it’s a good slow burn thriller, 7/10
