Sadly, I did not finish this book. I found the narrative to be slow, awkwardly paced and some what disjointed. The characters are unlikeable and flawed in not very relatable ways which made it difficult to feel invested in the narrative. The fact that the neighbours also disliked and suspected one of the main characters helped to reinforce my negative view. I imagine this was the intended aim of the author, but without liking the characters and feeling nothing but indifference towards them, I found myself not caring whether the main lead was vindicated or who was instrumental in the crime, if indeed the mysterious deaths were a crime. I found the suspense and mystery to be more frustrating than intriguing and without liking the main protagonists it was difficult to stay loyal to see the book to the end. Admittedly, I did turn to the final segment to read the grand finale which confirmed to me that not reading the entirety of the book was the right thing for me to do so that I could invest in more pleasing literature.
