A Curious and Mysterious Seeming Read That Appeals To Me

This seems like a quite mysterious and thrilling read - the history of the Grand Canyon is something I know nothing about but would find interesting to read about, if in a novel. Reading the first look, I found it to be an easy read with a good amount of dialogue and not unnecessarily bogged down in complicated descriptions and the like.

There are some cheesy aspects, or possible even a touch of cliche, present at times (primarily when Nolan talks about the breathtaking impact of seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time) and with the descriptions of his work colleagues but it didn't put me off wanting to read it regardless.

I liked that the protagonist, Nolan, comes across as a quite cynical person - what he said in the extract I read seemed quite plausible and I found myself enjoying the first couple of chapters.

I particularly liked the sense of mystery that the plot contains. It may be a bit like an extended ghost or horror story sort of a read or, perhaps more likely maybe? more like an Indiana Jones type tale - either way I'd be curious to read on and find out more. I admit I haven't read Dan Browns work, although I have seen the film adaptation of The Da Vinci Code but I do like historical fiction and so I'd be happy to give this novel a full read, to see what I think of it. It seems pretty promising so far, the hopefully ocassional cheesy/cliche aspect notwithstanding.
