The fact that I could picture a film version of 'The Anomaly' shows how perfect this book is for the big screen; the fact Rutger is a screenwriter certainly increases the likelihood of this occurring.
Similarities with the likes of 'Alien', 'Descent' and 'The Blair Witch Project' exist - a dark, deserted and vast underground cavern is the destination for a small group of researchers/Youtubers. Strange artefacts and symbols validate the reference to the 'fans of Dan Brown' tagline, but this is more of an anthropological exploration than the greater conspiracies of religion explored in the likes of 'The Da Vinci Code' - also great! Whilst Rutger doesn't quite match the shadowy cloak and dagger world of Brown, there seems to be a suggestion that a mysterious organisation has plans that the wider world shouldn't be aware of. There's definite scope for a series here, as well as a possible book detailing this narrator's ex-partner.
The narrator, Nolan, is rather likeable - and his relationship with Ken adds great humour to the bleak darkness and what lies beneath the Grand Canyon.
Certainly gripping, haven't read a book this quick for a while!
