This is described as 'For fans of Dan Brown', but to me it's more Matthew Reilly-esque. It's a slow start and the action doesn't really ramp up until the last third. Until then there's lots of character outlinining and descriptions of A LOT (like, seriously...how many tunnels and caves can you describe?) of tunnels and caves, and explanations of archaelogical/native American terms....the thing with Dan Brown is he based his novels around something the majority of people have a basic knowledge or at least could vaguely recognise, but this seems to include a lot of sections where a concept/idea is mentioned and then has to go on to explain exactly what that is before the reader really can get to grips with what's going on. This really slows things down but when the pace does pick up it's a rollicking National Treasure-style romp.....not chilling and sinister as the blurb would have you believe but a good adventure all the same.
