An quick page turning gripping read. Shocking in parts, but not too gruesome on the details. I would rate the first 75% as 4/5 but the enjoyment tailed off towards the end.

The characters are built up well, the central character a thuggish ex police called Priest. He’s not too clever so keeps things interesting during his investigation. He’s actually some kind of lawyer, but thankfully few pages are dedicated to boring lawyer related claptrap, which just sets the scene and introduces the characters. Priest spends most of his time crime solving and chasing down criminals. All great reading.

There are various interesting characters in this book, all very different personalities. However they all share one flaw, they all wink at each other, which doesn’t always make sense. However, there are some awesome weirdos and perverts to provide interesting reading.

If you are into using the evidence to guess who did the crime, then don’t try with this read. The end could have linked up with the buildup of the characters through the book and is a little disjointed. There are still some great moments though, so certainly not worth binning the book over. But could have been more carefully planned out. There are a few loose ends. That are tied up in a few pages at the end, some of these could have been dealt with earlier.

Overall - a good holiday read, if you like dark stories.
