Although the blurb and cover weren’t instantly appealing the first few chapters offered enough intrigue to lure me in. I’ve not read The Mayfly however that didn’t prove to be a problem as the few references to it provided adequate explanation for me not to feel as though I’m missing something. I thought there were quite a few characters to get my head round however the flow of the book meant that it was easy to keep up with them. The plot itself was good, the basis behind the murders was realistic and not unnecessarily over complicated and there was a logic to the order in which events happened. The storyline kept me gripped and I found this an easy read. My only negative is that I felt Priest didn’t need to have a dissociative order for him to be an interesting enough character in his own right, it felt like the author was trying too hard with that element. Overall though it’s well worth reading whether you have read The Mayfly or not
