Once again, a fascinating novel from James Hazel. The Mayfly intrigued me, but you always wonder if the second novel can reach the same heights. I wasn’t disappointed, this novel is just as strong and compelling to read.
Hazel pulls together a cast of memorable characters, most of whom are flawed but this makes them even more appealing to the reader. Charlie is unique and a likeable main character, I empathised with his personal battles.
Although the story can, at times, be horribly graphic, as was The Mayfly, it is well structured and fast paced, pulling you along with Charlie and Georgie from one discovery to the next.
Where does he find his incredible inspiration for these unusual stories? (Actually, maybe I shouldn’t ask that question, not sure I want to know the answer!)
His legal background reassures me that procedures described are authentic, the black humour lightens the moment on occasion.
I know that novel three is en route- sign me up... I want to know what Charlie is going to deal with next!
