I found this book a little hard going. It was a bit slow to get going, and felt a bit laboured in certain parts. It is still a good idea for a plot and there are some good twists, it just seemed a little disjointed in parts. The characters were interesting and all fitted into their parts of the plot perfectly, interacting with each other. Pierce as a flawed character is unusual in his flaws but it does aid the plot that he has those assets.
The political feel of the story put me off a little as I don't like politics in general. The courtroom feel at the beginning was promising but seemed to me to be put slightly aside in favour of the murder enquiry aspect of the story.
Although I did not really enjoy this book as much as I thought I would it is worth a read.
