Interesting!
Hannah is grieving after the death of her husband, John. He was murdered by a young guy who tried to mug him and panicked once he knew he was a police officer.
The murderer is convicted and sentenced but instead of going to a normal prison, a cell is constructed in Hannah's kitchen. She works as a baker and spends a lot of time in the kitchen, so she's very uneasy about having her husband's murderer in the same room.
I think the idea is that the prisoner and victim's family are meant to reconcile or connect in some way.
Hannah is counting on the prisoner being moved after a month or two to a 'foster' prison who will take him on.
Despite evidence against him, he denies killing her husband.
This book is easy to read and an interesting concept.
