This was such a compulsive read - dark, original and a fantastic mixture of a dystopian future/thriller!

Imagine a world in which criminals have to live in the centre of the home of those they have committed a crime against? More specifically, imagine the man who murdered your police officer husband now living in a cell in your kitchen, where you spend most of your day...

That was already enough to peak my interest!

The premise of this novel is already fantastic, but the author has also written some wonderfully flawed but likeable characters and a great twisty plot that will leave you guessing right until the end.

Hannah, the widow now spending every day with her husband’s alleged murderer, Jem, is at heart a kind and compassionate person, so it doesn’t take long for Jem to convince her that he didn’t kill her husband, and for her to start her own investigations. But as Hannah gets closer and closer to Jem, will she be able to see the truth, or is she being played by her captive?

I’ve read some great thrillers and suspense novels this past year, but this is definitely the most unique and unexpected - there are some really big questions posed about crime, punishment and justice in this strange alternative reality, and it really leaves the reader with a lot more to think about than your typical whodunnit.

Absolutely loved this and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a bit more from their thrillers/suspense novels!
