It's been a while since I read a good thriller but this one certainly pulled me back into the genre by the lapels! The book introduces a not so distant future (as far as I can gather at least) wherein restorative justice has taken a new meaning. Criminals can be forced to serve their sentence in the homes of the people they wronged - in our case Hannah has to live alongside Jem, the man who was found guilty of killing her husband - for twenty years! With every chapter comes a new piece of the puzzle as things are never what they seem...
I love that we weren't spoon fed the story or the new world we find ourselves in, more that it just slowly unfolds in front of us. I couldn't stop reading this book. The chapters are short and punchy which I find really helpful when reading. If you love a good thriller like me then I couldn't recommend The Captive enough, honestly you won't regret it!
