When I first looked at the cover for The Captive it caught my interest, then once I had read the first impression I knew I wanted too read more. I was lucky enough too win a copy of the book and once I started reading I could not put it down as I was immediately hooked,  I finished the book withing two days of starting it.

I really liked the way restorative justice was the main type of punishment and it was easy to imagine how Hannah must have felt having her husbands murderer in a cell in her kitchen.  I found the whole restorative justice approach  really interesting and I enjoyed seeing it talked about throughout the book.

Another thing I really enjoyed about The Captive was the way the chapters were written in the different perspectives of Hannah and Jem it really added to the book as you could see both sides of all of the events that had happened and it made reading alot more interesting. I loved how the relationship between Jem and Hannah developed and I loved how Hannah turned detective too figure out what her husband John had been hiding.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed The Captive and I cannot wait too read more of Deborah O'Connor's work as she is a brilliant writer.
