I was very lucky to receive an early hardback copy from @readersfirst in exchange for a written first impression.

Let's start with the cover; the bold yellow writing on the background of what looks like a hallway with the shadow of prison bars; pure genius.

I don't know how to express how much I loved this book without giving too much away. From the synopsis I really had no clue what it would be about and that intrigued me so much.

It turned out to be the perfect mixture of two of my favourite genres; thriller and dystopian. The world that this is set in is absolutely terrifying and one that I definitely would not want to live in.

I was hooked. It was just so clever. I looked at it and worried it was going to drag because it's a bit of a chunky book but it had such great pace and it never felt slow or boring. I liked both Hannah and Jem from the beginning.

Just wow. I cannot wait to read more books by this Author.
