Would you prosecute if you knew that you had to live with and take care of a criminal in your own home?
In a not too distant future where the prison system has collapsed, victims are now forced to house the prosecuted unless they don't have the space, disabled or unwell.
Our protagonist Hannah finds herself in this exact situation, and has a prison cell the size of a car parking space installed in her kitchen. There is electric fencing surrounding the house and Hannah must do everything for Jem; feeding him, washing his clothes and other necessary things. Jem insists he's innocent and something he says sets Hannah on her own path of investigation as he might just be telling the truth.

I found this book really interesting, the idea of the victims housing criminals and the fact people stop reporting crimes because they don't want to take on that burden.
This book is told in a dual perspective of Hannah and Jem but you get more from Hannah's POV.
At points I found this book very predictable and wasn't blown away by the big reveal. What I enjoyed about was the back story to Jem's life and how he come to be captive in Hannah's kitchen.
This was a fast paced book, easy to read and a great starter book into the thriller/mystery genre.
What really stood out to me was the concept of the criminal justice system and you never know it could happen!
