The First Impression really only gives the set up to the novel. From the blurb it is clear that the bulk of the book is about Tumi's stay with his grandmother and her revelations about her history. I would have expected to have a pretty good idea of Tumi's character from this section but it is all superficial information, little about who he really is.

Although I am intrigued by what the Grandmother's revelations may be I'm not really invested in finding out. Probably because I feel no connection with the main character.

The writing flows nicely and makes it easy to keep reading, even if some of the font choices are peculiar.
