Once in a while a book comes along and the story truly hits home about maltreatment and discrimination. I believe this book 'The Colours that Blind ' by Rutendo Tavengerwei is this book. It's a beautiful woven and crafted story of Tumi and his struggles with his Albinism. He has a release from this, swimming! But even in that medium self doubt threatens.

We are educated on the issue of cultural mistrust of Albinism, that people who have such a condition are dangerous and must be dealt with (even Tumis own uncle plots against him). This book doesn't pull any punches in its depiction of the atrocities concerned with Zimbabwe and it keeps us reminded that these problems very much still exist. I particularly liked the intertwining of Tumi and his grandmother's stories and experiences. Helpfully there is a glossary in the back of the book to help us understand some traditional terms.
