Tumi is desperate to find acceptance amongst his peers, obsessed with making the national swimming team to make people see more than just his albinism. When he is sent away from the city and it’s comforts to stay with his grandmother, the horrifying events of his past come racing back to him. Thandiwe tells Tumi her tragic, heartbreaking story of growing up amongst hatred in a war-torn country, and the overarching themes of prejudice, hatred and forgiveness intertwine their stories.

This was a heartfelt emotional journey, with intertwined stories that has a deep meaning and teaching at the end. The entanglement of ambuya's harrowing past and Tumi's persecuted present. The Colours that Blind is a truly thought provoking read, especially within the current climate. It is a book of two stories which both make the reader think about race. The main story is of Tumi, a boy from Zimbabwe with Albinism. It focuses on his anxiety after being kidnapped by his own uncle, who wanted to sell him to those who believed that his condition possessed magical healing powers. Of course, this educates readers about the horrible treatment people with Albinism are experiencing in some parts of southern Africa.
