This novel is up to date and like with many fictional novels the main protagonist is 'different' and doesn't fit the norm. In this instance, the story revolves around fourteen-year-old Tumi who lives in modern-day Zimbabwe and has albinism.

Additionally, another story is weaving its way through the novel and that one is of Tumi's grandmother who was a young woman during the time of apartheid. This was a terrible and frightening time for her and her friends and family. The two stories work well together and benefit the other. They are well written and both kept my interest and were easy to follow for their own and joint merits.

At a time when black history is at the forefront in society, this was an apt novel to read and alerts the reader to the possible dangers of prejudice. It was a worthwhile read which was quite eye-opening and would be suitable for older children's reading.
