This books consists of two intertwined stories. That of Tumi a current day fourteen year old albino boy from Zimbabwe and that of his grandmother and her experience of the fight for black independence in 1970s Rhodesia. Traumatic events in both lives are revealed slowly though out the book. It deals with African superstition that albinos have a magical healing power so albino children are often kidnapped, mutilated or killed for their body parts. As well as the black uprisings in Africa.
At first I thought that this was a book for young readers, due to the large print and the fact that it begins with Tumi's narrative, but it is a book for all ages. Some of the events in the story are difficult for the reader to deal with at an emotion level so I would say that it is not for anyone with a sensitive disposition.
