Tumi is an albino and struggling for acceptance at school and in life in general.
He tried to get on the swim team to try and become more popular but then he has to leave before the trials and stay with his grandma.
But something sinister happened the last time he stayed with her and in his mind that whole dreadful night is all jumbled up in his mind and he blames her for what happened.
But then his grandma opens up about her life by reliving her past and she has been living with guilt and demons herself.
I could see where the story was going but dipping back and forth between the past and the present just isn't for me, the different angles and threads always kind of make me lose track of the story overall.
