A heart warming tale

I loved Stephanie’s previous novel, “Lost for Words”, so had high expectations for this book.
Once again Stephanie Butland has developed a character full of snappy retorts and humorous asides, even when in the depths of a difficult life challenging situation, as Ailsa is.
I would not normally choose to read a medical centred book, and it did remind me at times of “The Fault in our Stars” and “My Sister’s Keeper”, neither of which were comfortable reads for me. The personification of the heart, by naming it, is clever, however, and rather than being negative and depressing about the challenges, I found it very uplifting and optimistic.
I liked the way the book was written shifting between blog posts, emails and narratives, this really keeps the story moving along, and the emails are a witty way of learning more about Seb and Ailsa.
I also liked the use of the play Romeo and Juliet as a back story. As to the polls- where on earth did you come up with some of those ideas Ms Butland? They're great & made me laugh.
Was it unputdownable? No. Was it positive, upbeat and did it give me a warm glow inside? Yes.
